"HOW COLOMBIAN ARTISTS AND MUSIC INFLUENCED IN THE WORLD"

COLOMBIAN ARTISTS OUT OF THE COUNTRY

In the early 20th century a series of multicultural events increased in Colombia
thanks to some cultural movements that permitted to archeologists, musicians,
painters, actors, litterateurs or specialist in work with jewelry and modern art or
fine arts.
Some painters like Santiago Martínez Delgado, neoclassic art; Pedro Nel Gómez,
muralist; Alejandro Obregón, surrealism and cubism; Fernando Botero,
exaggerated figures; Doris Salcedo and Débora Arango, plastic arts, they opened
the doors to actual artists.

In dancing for example, the bambuco and the traditional folkloric dance (porro,
merengue, salsa, cumbia) started to be promoted in Latin America with Pablo
“Pacho” Galán, Lucho Bermúdez and their music. Now it is often mixed with
dancehall, reggae, hip hop, electronic music influences to create a more modern
sound.
In the textile and fashion design some colombian artists have conquered the
runways in the world. Silvia Tcherassi, Amelia Toro, Hernán Zajar, Esteban
Cortázar, Haider Ackermann and recently: Andrés Pajón, Camilo Álvarez, Jorge
Duque give other alternatives in fashion style.

In literature Gabriel García Márquez, Álvaro Mutis, Fernando Vallejo, Jorge Isaacs y
William Ospina changed the face colombian population.
And we can´t forget our cultural carnival celebrations: Carnaval de Barranquilla,
Feria de Cali, Carnaval de Blancos y Negros y Feria de las FLores and the big events
in the country help us with the good reputation for foreign people.

Colombia is a country recognized around the world by its coffee, flowers,
biodiversity, beautiful women, kind people, nice weather, drugs and also
especially by the different artists like singers, sculptors, painters, writers,
actors,etc.
Some of the most popular artist are: Shakira, Carlos Vives, Maluma, J. Balvin, Sofía
Vergara… according to some investigations, a big percentage of foreign people
think of one of those characters when you ask them about what they know about
Colombia.

Currently our artists are successful people who always talk good about Colombia
and how important is love our roots and strive for what you want to get.
Now Colombian artist are helping to create a good image of Colombia, and people
does not feel fear to visit the country or talk positively about us and know more of
this culture and the variety of typical customs and behaviors of this place.

The success of the international artistic career for some Colombians is due to the
fact that many of them have been able to captivate the foreign public to position
themselves in the market as the recognized artists they are today. Alliances with
artists from other countries or with great brands has been key in the process of
some singers, such as Maluma or J Balvin. Bring the essence and roots of their land
as part of their musical, acting, artistic, etc. DNA It has been that of others, such
as Juanes, Carlos Vives or Sofía Vergara.

And although it has been a process that has taken years and years of hard and
steady work, their dedication and passion for what they do is also another key
ingredient that has allowed them to be where they are now.

The impulse and influence of social networks in the artistic careers of many is a
determining factor in the success achieved, as it has not only facilitated the
recognition of their image in every corner of the planet, but also their talent and
style. The digital generation has managed to spread the image of Colombians as an
example that in the country there is great potential in the different artistic fields.
There are many strategies that artists have used to do a job as important as
making the whole world recognize them but especially so that the world does not
forget where they come from.

For any artists weren't easy to conquer the international audience, one rules was
try to speak in other languages to understand the culture in each country. To have
the capacity of continue with the career then to companies reject the proposals of
the artist.

For the capacity to adapt the colombian artists are changing the way how outside
looking us. They have obtain big result in their careers.
Those artists were strong, worked hard, they looked how people and companies
closed doors to them but they never stop to dream and they continue with their
mision life.

PODCAST

Hiii!! Welcome again to our podcast channel!

Today We are going to talk about DNA, culture and identity and cross cultural insights...

Well, all of us know what DNA is, the material that carries all the information about how a living thing will look and function. For instance, DNA in humans determines such things as what color the eyes are and how the lungs work. Each piece of information is carried on a different section of the DNA. These sections are called genes.

DNA is short for deoxyribonucleic acid. It is in every cell of every living thing. DNA is found in structures…

Have you taken a DNA test before? in my case, I've never done but I would like to do it, that way I can discover from where I come and what kind of influences I have of the different cultures... Because if you know how connected you are with the rest of the world, you can have a really good idea about why you’re short or tall, fat or skinny, why the color of eyes you have, your physical characteristics in general, the influence of your DNA on your behavior and even the pathologies and risks about health that you are exposed to.

Now let’s change the topic a bit, although I feel very proud of being Colombian, I would have liked to be a European, from a very powerful country where the opportunities for all were the same, not like in my country... and of course countries where the genetic is very generous with the physical appearance of people. But I have to say this: People in Colombia is happy, no matter if the genetic is not so good with them, no matter if the opportunities are not so many, but here happiness is something everyone has in their veins. Thinking better and connecting this idea with the last thing as I was talking about earlier, one of the DNA as Colombians posses is: HAPPINESS.

Now if you ask me where I would like to travel in future, my answer is simple: to the old continent: Europe, to know all the traditions and culture they have, of course, to see the emblematic places for which is known each country over there and to make my own ideas about how is life far from America... but the real question is travel there as a tourist or inmigrant? As a tourist ever!!! Being an immigrant nowadays is so hard particularly because the sexism and xenophobia issues are increasing against people whom aren’t natural from those countries.

And my last comment is about prejudices and stereotypes about nationalities... yes! There are a loooot of those all over the world. As a Colombian who traveled to other countries and lived together with people from other nations, I have felt like a victim of some stereotypes... like the mafia issues, drugs and stereotype of the Colombian women. One day an Argentinian guy said to me “so you are Colombian!!! do you have a bomb in that bag?” A Mexican guy said “what a beautiful nose! Do you have surgery? All the Colombians I know, have one” and the gringos used to made jokes about marihuana and cocaine when I introduced myself and they discovered I’m from Medellin. But I still feel proud of my roots. That’s it...

I guess everyone carries whit some stereotype no matter where they come from, but remember: “To Know Where You’re Going, Learn Where You Came From!”

You are the result of many years of evolution and many mixes of culture and traditions, Always Feel very Proud of everything you are.

Analysis to the story "The American Embassy" from the book "The thing around your neck"

This story is about a lady in the line to apply for an American visa, trying to get political asylum in USA because her husband was a Nigerian journalist who apparently the government was looking for to take him to the jail due to his denounces in the newspaper where he was working.

Basically the story was developed outside the American Embassy in Lagos (Nigeria) under a strong sunny and hot day and the narrator says all the details about the atmosphere around, what is happening with people outside in a regular day and what is happening in the line with the main character and someone else who is behind trying to have a conversation and giving some advice about how to talk with the person who gives the visas, but this woman has a lot of things on her mind, like the persecution of her husband, the death of her son and how to be safe after some violent circunstances.

There are four main characters in this story: Ugonna (son), husband: who had to run away out of the country, the man in the line: a talkative person who talks all the time and is being persistent even knowing that the women is showing attitude and the main character: a worried woman looking for protection but without proofs.
This story reminds me of the situation of many people around the world, specially those who live in poor countries and want to try to have a better life as inmigrants traveling to America, “the country of the opportunities”.

In this case, the character was not looking for a better life but she was looking for political protection... of course, she had a lot of things against her, like being black and probably her culture. I guess many of us have applied for visas and everybody maybe feel the same uncertainty about if they will be approved or not, she was having that feeling and you as a reader can understand it. Although the end was a bit confusing to me, I could make the comparison about that story and our reality as Colombians and immigrants in general and how the press and journalists all over the world are pursued to be banned.
As a Colombian who visited the embassy one day, I can say: I know how disconcerted she was in that line! I understand perfectly her feeling.

I liked the story because I could see reflected some of realities, because it shows me that others have a life more difficult than us but we thought all the time that our problems are serious and  it is not really like that.

The Scarecrow, a new way of marketing- Analysis

This is a new kind of marketing for a company... marketing that doesn’t feel like marketing

1.This short film use the animation to explain how is the problem with consumption of processed food in the world and plus the company Chipotle, wants to promoted a game.

This animated piece use an inspiring message where the main character discover how the Company Crow Foods make the processed food even being cruel with animals.

2.The issue is addressed from a company who wants to show how important is to eat fresh and healthy food in a world where almost everything that you find in the market is processed

3.Educate people about where their food comes from.
Make conscious to people about an important situación using animation, and how important is to eat good and healthy.

4.Chipotle May benefit from the idea, because finally it is a commercial do it to promote the franchises... but at the same time they are making to think people about everything that they eat at home and outside.
It may be affected to the big companies who sells canned food or food with a lot of preservatives and genetically altered.

5.The short film has a big impact specially on almost all the platforms of social media and the most important tv news, magazines and newspapers like
The New York Times
