COLOMBIAN ARTISTS OUT OF THE COUNTRY

In the early 20th century a series of multicultural events increased in Colombia

thanks to some cultural movements that permitted to archeologists, musicians,

painters, actors, litterateurs or specialist in work with jewelry and modern art or

fine arts.

Some painters like Santiago Martínez Delgado, neoclassic art; Pedro Nel Gómez,

muralist; Alejandro Obregón, surrealism and cubism; Fernando Botero,

exaggerated figures; Doris Salcedo and Débora Arango, plastic arts, they opened

the doors to actual artists.

In dancing for example, the bambuco and the traditional folkloric dance (porro,

merengue, salsa, cumbia) started to be promoted in Latin America with Pablo

“Pacho” Galán, Lucho Bermúdez and their music. Now it is often mixed with

dancehall, reggae, hip hop, electronic music influences to create a more modern

sound.

In the textile and fashion design some colombian artists have conquered the

runways in the world. Silvia Tcherassi, Amelia Toro, Hernán Zajar, Esteban

Cortázar, Haider Ackermann and recently: Andrés Pajón, Camilo Álvarez, Jorge

Duque give other alternatives in fashion style.

In literature Gabriel García Márquez, Álvaro Mutis, Fernando Vallejo, Jorge Isaacs y

William Ospina changed the face colombian population.

And we can´t forget our cultural carnival celebrations: Carnaval de Barranquilla,

Feria de Cali, Carnaval de Blancos y Negros y Feria de las FLores and the big events

in the country help us with the good reputation for foreign people.

Colombia is a country recognized around the world by its coffee, flowers,

biodiversity, beautiful women, kind people, nice weather, drugs and also

especially by the different artists like singers, sculptors, painters, writers,

actors,etc.

Some of the most popular artist are: Shakira, Carlos Vives, Maluma, J. Balvin, Sofía

Vergara… according to some investigations, a big percentage of foreign people

think of one of those characters when you ask them about what they know about

Colombia.

Currently our artists are successful people who always talk good about Colombia

and how important is love our roots and strive for what you want to get.

Now Colombian artist are helping to create a good image of Colombia, and people

does not feel fear to visit the country or talk positively about us and know more of

this culture and the variety of typical customs and behaviors of this place.

The success of the international artistic career for some Colombians is due to the

fact that many of them have been able to captivate the foreign public to position

themselves in the market as the recognized artists they are today. Alliances with

artists from other countries or with great brands has been key in the process of

some singers, such as Maluma or J Balvin. Bring the essence and roots of their land

as part of their musical, acting, artistic, etc. DNA It has been that of others, such

as Juanes, Carlos Vives or Sofía Vergara.

And although it has been a process that has taken years and years of hard and

steady work, their dedication and passion for what they do is also another key

ingredient that has allowed them to be where they are now.

The impulse and influence of social networks in the artistic careers of many is a

determining factor in the success achieved, as it has not only facilitated the

recognition of their image in every corner of the planet, but also their talent and

style. The digital generation has managed to spread the image of Colombians as an

example that in the country there is great potential in the different artistic fields.

There are many strategies that artists have used to do a job as important as

making the whole world recognize them but especially so that the world does not

forget where they come from.

For any artists weren't easy to conquer the international audience, one rules was

try to speak in other languages to understand the culture in each country. To have

the capacity of continue with the career then to companies reject the proposals of

the artist.

For the capacity to adapt the colombian artists are changing the way how outside

looking us. They have obtain big result in their careers.

Those artists were strong, worked hard, they looked how people and companies

closed doors to them but they never stop to dream and they continue with their

mision life.
